The Renesas RZ Family is the product family name of microprocessors developed by Renesas Electoronics.[1]
The name of RZ comes from the initials of "the Zenith of Renesas micro"[2].
Overview
[edit]The RZ family uses a 32-bit/64-bit ARM architecture CPU core or a RISC-V architecture CPU core, and is a high-end product group in Renesas' microprocessor (MPU)/microcontroller (MCU) product portfolio. The RZ family has five product series, with a lineup aimed at embedded systems such as Vision AI, industrial networks, real-time control, IoT Edge, and HMI (human-machine interface).[3]
Features of each series
[edit]This is a product series for Vision AI equipped with Renesas' unique IP, the DRP-AI accelerator[4]. The advantage of DRP-AI is that it can achieve high-speed AI inference with low power consumption, enabling real-time AI processing of images without a cooling fan in applications such as retail, robotics, home appliances, and industrial automation.
This is a product series for industrial network applications that can easily add TSN and industrial Ethernet protocols. It supports major industrial communication protocols including PROFINET, EtherNet/IP™, EtherCAT®, Modbus, and CC-Link. Main application areas include PLCs, Ethernet switches, and remote I/O.[5]
This is a product series for real-time control that supports industrial Ethernet communication and various encoder protocols. It provides real-time communication for Industry 4.0 and industrial IoT (Internet of Things) applications. Main application areas include AC servos, industrial motors, inverters, etc.
This product series includes products for high-end HMI applications equipped with a graphics core (GPU), and products for IoT Edge applications equipped with high-speed connectivity and security functions. It also supports multiple OSs including Linux OS, Android OS, and RTOS. Its application fields are not limited to display products, but are wide-ranging, including home battery control and asset trackers.
This is a product series for RTOS-based HMI applications with excellent real-time performance and fast startup. It has a large built-in memory of up to 10MB and combines the ease of use of an MCU with the high functionality of an MPU. The main application areas are industrial display devices, home appliance display devices, scanners, etc.
