Draft:Renegade Project

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Renegade Project is an open-source initiative aimed at enabling the installation and booting of ARM64 versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 on a variety of Android devices. This project primarily targets mobile devices powered by some of the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs, providing a usable EDK2 UEFI environment for these devices.[1]

Overview

[edit]

The Renegade Project simplifies the process of booting ARM64 Windows on Android devices by creating a firmware interface from scratch. This involves compiling a TianoCore EDK II image on top of the bootloader of the target smartphone.[2] The project offers precompiled binaries for select devices, which can be found in the Releases section of the project's GitHub repository.[3]

Installation Process

[edit]

To install Windows on an Android device using the Renegade Project, users need to:

  1. Compile or download the appropriate EDK II image.
  2. Download the ARM64 build of Windows 10 or 11.
  3. Manually prepare the installer.
  4. Modify the /userdata partition to avoid hard-bricking the device.
  5. Apply the WIM package from the Windows Preinstallation Environment and slipstream the necessary drivers.[2]

The process requires technical expertise, and users are encouraged to follow detailed guides provided by the community.[1]

Supported Devices

[edit]

The Renegade Project supports a variety of devices, including but not limited to:

  • ASUS ZenFone 5Z
  • AYN Odin
  • Google Pixel 3
  • OnePlus 6T
  • Xiaomi Mi 8[2]

Community and Support

[edit]

The project is supported by a vibrant community of developers and users who collaborate through platforms like Telegram, Discord, and the project's forum. The community provides troubleshooting assistance, installation guides, and updates on new device support.[1]
