Career

[edit]

Sons of Rice

[edit]

Ram Sleibi initially gained recognition as one half of the alternative rock duo Sons of Rice, alongside his friend Bob (Bader) Mood. The duo formed organically after meeting in high school in a music class in Dubai, where they started by playing covers and engaging in jam sessions. Sons of Rice released their debut album Guts to Skin in 2022, which showcased a blend of alternative rock, punk, and experimental genres.[1]

Their second album Made of Pearls was released in 2023.[2] This album reflected the duo's experiences as immigrants and provided a biographical account of Ram's journey from the Levant to the West. It addressed themes such as identity, nostalgia, and displacement, rejecting victimhood and presenting immigrant triumph in a raw and satirical manner.

Solo Career and "I Met A Hummingbird"

[edit]

In 2024, Ram Sleibi commenced his solo career by releasing his debut album, I Met A Hummingbird.[3] This instrumental album delves into the art of letting go and the complexities of human connection and separation. It symbolizes a journey through seven thematic stages: excitement, nostalgia, lust, confusion, external factors, control, and letting go. Each stage is represented by a track characterized by Ram’s soulful hums, with the hummingbird epitomizing a lost love and the importance of communication.[4]

I Met A Hummingbird is a deeply personal project, arranged, composed, and produced entirely by Ram. It features his musical contributions on vocals, piano, keys, and bass, and collaborations with Levantine musicians from Europe, Canada, and Dubai. The album is accompanied by warm visuals and a limited-edition booklet containing Ram's sketches, poems, and music notes, providing fans with an immersive experience.

Snail Pace Grace

[edit]

Ram Sleibi is also the founder of Snail Pace Grace, an independent production house dedicated to producing and promoting emerging talents. Through this platform, he also engages in various creative projects aimed at inspiring and connecting with audiences, particularly Arab youth. One notable project is the web series 'Shabab Al Mostaqbal' (Youth of the Future), which explores themes of identity, nostalgia, and displacement.
