From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rahul Sethpal is an Indian professional kabaddi player who plays for Haryana Steelers and is renowned for his defensive prowess in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). He primarily occupies the right corner defender position and has been instrumental in his team's defensive strategies.[1][2]

Early life and background

[edit]

Rahul Sethpal was born on September 20, 2000, into a Gurjar family in Bapoli village, Panipat district, Haryana. He grew up in a sports-oriented environment that fostered his passion for kabaddi. Rahul's younger brother, Sagar Rawal, has followed in his footsteps and currently plays for the Telugu Titans in the Pro Kabaddi League. Their shared dedication to the sport has made them prominent figures in the kabaddi community.[citation needed]

Professional career

[edit]

Rahul's professional journey began with a significant milestone when he won the Junior National Kabaddi Championship, representing the Sports Authority of India (SAI). His stellar performance in the championship earned him a spot in the Pro Kabaddi League with U Mumba in Season 8.

While Rahul was part of U Mumba in Seasons 8 and 9, he didn't get many opportunities to showcase his skills. Following these seasons, he was released by the team. However, his talent did not go unnoticed. During the PKL Season 10 auction, Haryana Steelers acquired Rahul for ₹40.2 lakhs, marking a turning point in his career.

Rahul's performance in Season 10 was nothing short of exceptional, and his consistent defensive displays led Haryana Steelers to retain him for PKL Season 11. His ability to deliver under pressure and his defensive acumen have made him an invaluable asset to the team.[1][2][3]

Notable achievements

[edit]

Rahul Sethpal had a record-breaking performance in PKL Season 10, where he achieved an incredible 15 super tackles in a single game, setting a new benchmark in the league. Over the course of the season, he accumulated 73 tackle points with a remarkable success rate of 68%, one of the highest in the league.

In PKL Season 11, Rahul continued his impressive form, once again scoring 73 tackle points. Serving as the vice-captain of the Haryana Steelers, he led his team to victory in the finals, cementing his legacy as one of the most impactful players in the tournament.

Rahul is also a Junior National Kabaddi Champion, having won the champ[2]ionship with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) team, showcasing his prowess even at a young age.[1][3][4]

Playing style

[edit]

Rahul Sethpal is known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field. He is down-to-earth, respectful to everyone, and thrives in high-pressure situations, especially during super tackles. His approach to tackling is methodical—he rarely makes mistakes and only executes tackles when he is fully confident in their success.
