Radhadesh also known as Château de Petite Somme[3] is the headquarters of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Belgium and the biggest Hindu center in the Benelux. Every year, more than 30,000 tourists visit Radhadesh.[4][5]
Description
[edit]The temple is situated in the 19th-century palace and houses deities of Radha-Krishna, Jagannath, and Gaura-Nitai. In 1972, Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada-the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness-came personally to install Jagannath, Baladeva, and Subhadra deities in the Amsterdam temple through special ceremonial rituals. In February 1977, the deities of Radha-Gopinath were installed there. In 1980, these deities were brought to Radhadesh, where worshiping continued. The property in Radhadesh consists of a classical bakery, a shop selling Indian goods, a cafeteria, a vegetarian restaurant, a park, and the Bhaktivedanta College-a theological college for Vaishnavas. The total property size is 47 hectares.[4]

Management
[edit]It is legally registered as a non-profit organization in Belgium. The current president of Radhadesh is Herman Janssens (spiritual name Hridaya Chaitanya Dasa), a Belgian citizen. Herman Janssens has headed the community since 1986. He became a member of ISKCON in Amsterdam in 1980 and has been a resident in Radhadesh since then. Both he and his wife are disciples of Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami, one of the first disciples of ISKCON founder Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Under the guidance of Hridaya Chaitanya, this community has grown and developed successfully.[4][5]
