Quansoo Woods was commissioned by Elizabeth E. Meyer, granddaughter of Eugene Isaac Meyer, founder of the Allied Chemical Corporation, fifth president of the Federal Reserve, first president of the World Bank Group, and publisher of the Washington Post. Working with Twanette T. Tharp, designer, Meyer had the main house and the sauna building constructed in 1982.
Stephen C. Mormoris, founder of the ScentBeauty Corporation, purchased Quansoo Woods in 1998 and completed a master site plan and landscape design. He had the fields cleared, pond, pool, and stone walls built, and guest house, pool house, and studio buildings constructed to designs inspired by Tharp's original vision.
