Praxitelis (Modern Greek: Πραξιτέλης, Ancient Greek: Πρᾱξῐτέλης) is a male Greek given name derived from praxis (πρᾶξις) which means "deed", "action," or "work" and telos (τέλος) which means "fulfillment," "accomplishment," or "purpose". [1] [2] [3] The name can be interpreted as one who accomplishes his work.[4]

One such form is Praxiteles, derived from the Latin transcription of the Ancient Greek name Πρᾱξῐτέλης, where eta (η), pronounced as /ɛː/ in Classical Greek, is rendered by (e) in Latin.[5] [6] This form is also adopted by English, German, and other languages, in particular in reference to the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles.[7][8]
Praxitelis is an english transcription deriving from the Modern Greek spelling and pronunciation of the name Πραξιτέλης, where the pronunciation of eta (η) has evolved to /i/. [9][10]
