The politics of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern take place within a framework of a federal parliamentary representative democratic republic, where the Federal Government of Germany exercises sovereign rights with certain powers reserved to the states of Germany including Saxony-Anhalt.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) has been the biggest party in every election since 1998 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election.
