History
[edit]Formation through Starlight Boys and other activities
[edit]Polarix was formed through iQIYI's reality competition series Starlight Boys, which aired from October 26 to December 28, 2024. The show brought 69 contestants from around the world, primarily in South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, and Canada, to compete and to debut in a multinational boy group.[2][3] All members were announced in the finale episode, which was broadcast live on December 28, 2024, where they'll be active for about two years and six months.
Prior to the program, many of the members have already been active in the music industry. Hangyul previously debuted as a member of Yama and Hotchicks Entertainment's ballad group IM and competed with his fellow IM members in KBS2's The Unit where he ended up in 13th place.[4][better source needed] Hangyul and Lee Jun-hyuk both participated in Produce X 101.[5] Lee Jun-hyuk competed as an DSP Media trainee and was eliminated after finishing in 75th place. Hangyul finished in eighth place, becoming a member of X1 until their disbandment in January 2020.[6] Following the early disbandment of X1, Hangyul then went on to debut as the duo, H&D, in April 2020. Hangyul made his debut in the PocketDol Studio boy group BAE173 on November 19, 2020, with the group's extended play (EP) Intersection: Spark; He is on hiatus from BAE173 due to activities with Polarix.[7][8] Lee Jun-hyuk made his debut in the DSP Media boy group Mirae on March 17, 2021, with the group's extended play (EP) Killa.[9][10] On July 9, 2024, MIRAE had their disbandment announced after three years. Lee Jun-hyuk left the company.[11] Pentor was a contestant on LAZ iCON. He became a member of the debut lineup as he finished in 5th place and debuted as a member of LAZ1 on April 7, 2022. The group officially disbanded on March 11, 2023.[citation needed] Yang Dong-hwa participated in the MBN reality competition show The Origin – A, B, Or What? in 2022.[12] On the final episode aired on May 7, 2022, it was announced that Donghwa would debut as ABO, which was then changed to ATBO.[13] On June 13, 2022, IST Entertainment announced that Donghwa would not be debuting as a member of ATBO after his past misconduct when he was a student surfaced online.[14] In 2023, Lee Da-eul took part in the Mnet reality competition show Boys Planet. Lee Da-eul ranked at 47th place and was eliminated in the eighth episode.[15] In 2023, Xu Shi Huan took part in the MBC M reality competition show Fan Pick. He left the show due to personal reasons.[citation needed]
