Philip Marsh (born 21 January 1966) is an English architect. In 1995 he founded dRMM Architects, the Stirling Prize-winning architecture practice[1], with Alex de Rijke and Sadie Morgan.
Marsh met Alex de Rijke and Sadie Morgan during his studies at Kingston Polytechnic. The three designers founded dRMM (de Rijke Marsh Morgan) in 1995. Early on they were part of a wave of new British architectural talent].[2]
After a series of small-scale projects, the trio won an RIBA competition to transform Kingsdale School in Southwark in 1999 which Philip Marsh was Project Director on.
Marsh was also project director on a number of other projects including Clapham Manor School (which was Stirling Prize shortlisted), [3] and Wintringham Primary, leading to him being regarded as an authority on school architecture in the UK.[4]
His housing projects include Trafalgar Place (also shortlisted for the Stirling Prize)[5] and Faraday House in Battersea, described by the RIBA awards as “a delightful housing scheme where the architect has created wonderful homes on a less than optimal site”. [6]
Marsh sits on the Old Oak Common Design Review Panel [7] and the Lambeth Design Review Panel[8].
Marsh’s interest in environmental issues is in line with dRMM’s longstanding advocacy for less carbon-demanding architecture[9]. In an interview, when asked what one piece of legislation he would introduce, he responded: “I would have the courage to make central London Car Free”. [10]
