Payara Services is a UK-based open-source software company that provides enterprise Java solutions. It was founded in 2014 by Steve Millidge, following Oracle's decision to end commercial support for GlassFish.[1]

Payara Server, the company's first product, was based on the GlassFish codebase and provided an open-source application server compatible with Java EE (now Jakarta EE).[2] In response to growing demand for microservices-based architectures, Payara later released Payara Micro, a lightweight runtime for deploying Java applications in microservices environments.[3]
