Background and release

[edit]

Upon release, Michael J. Keplinger stated on his website, that “[although] superficially an ordinary love song”, the song crafted “a mature narrative exploring love’s value amid human imperfections.”[2] The song was written, performed & produced by Keplinger and subsequently mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios in London.[1]

The single was Keplinger’s first release on the Upper Austrian record label DIEgital Records and was distributed by Sony Music Entertainment. A music video, directed by Keplinger and shot on 16 mm film, was released on June 9, 2024 on YouTube.[2]

The song was pre-premiered along with its music video at the Golden Wire award ceremony on November 28, 2023 at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences. At the ceremony, the song was awarded 1st place in the Sound & Music category.[3][4] The music video was later premiered on April 28, 2024 in Eisenstadt, Austria[5] at the premiere of the short film For A While, in which the song was prominently featured.[6]

Passing Through was presented in an interview with Michael J. Keplinger on Austrian radio station Life Radio on May 29, 2024.[1]

Later in 2024, a vinyl release, limited to 100 copies was announced, pairing Passing Through with its B-side More Than Kind.[7]
