First Battle

[edit]

Sultan Hidayatullah had planned to attack the Dutch in June 20 1861, but the plan was leaked to the Dutch. The Dutch then sent Major Koch to carry out a surprise attack on Mount Pamaton on June 19 1861.
However, the Dutch attack on June 19 1861 against Mount Pamaton was thwarted by the Banjar people who had simpler weapons. In this battle, there were many casualties on both sides. Lieutenant Ter Dwerde and Corporal Grimm, who directly led the Dutch attack, also died from spear and keris stabs in their stomachs.

Second Battle

[edit]

In August 1861, Major Koch gathered his troops to attack Mount Pamaton. Major Koch failed to capture the Sultan because the people used guerrilla tactics to fight the Dutch. But, Sultan Hidayatullah's mother, Ratu Siti, was found by Dutch troops and held hostage in Martapura.

Aftermath

[edit]

This great battle was ended in the 1862 with a Dutch victory. But the fighting still continued until 1906.
