Oshala Herath is a prominent Sri Lankan political figure and social media activist.

Oshala Herath, age 47, is a prominent Sri Lankan political figure and social media activist. As of January 19, 2024, he is a candidate[1][2] in the 2024 Sri Lankan Presidential elections(Media Release - PRE/2024/21[3]), representing the New Independent Front, a political party he currently chairs. Herath has held this role since September 23, 2023, leading the party known as Abinawa Nivahal Peramuna, which is officially recognized in Sri Lanka.

Herath is also the Owner and CEO of Lankan People, a Colombo-based social media consulting firm established in 2009. This firm specializes in providing solutions for various social media-related issues. Additionally, he oversees the Lankan People Facebook page and group, which he founded in 2009, and which remains a significant platform for his engagement[4][5][6] with the public.

He has a notable background in political and media roles. From March 18, 2020, to August 31, 2021, he was a parliamentary candidate for the United National Party and contested the 2020 Parliament elections from the Colombo District. Before this, he served as the Coordinating Secretary to the President at the Presidential Secretariat from March 15, 2016, to October 23, 2017, and as Deputy Director of Media from April 7, 2015, to October 10, 2015, where he was the head of New Media[7] (Web & Social Media).

Herath also has experience in the Ministry of Fisheries, where he served as Director from July 2010 to December 2014. Additionally, he worked as a consultant at the Institute of Technological Studies from 2009 to 2012 and as Director at the Vignan Educational Foundation from 2003 to 2010.

He studied at the International Medical and Technological University from 1997 to 2005. Before higher education, he attended St. Peter's College in Colombo.
