Orysia Boychuk is a Canadian Community Development Leader of Ukrainian descent who is currently serving as the President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Alberta Provincial Council.[1] She has guided the Canadian Ukrainian community through difficult situations including COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion in Ukraine.[2]

Career[edit]

Boychuk has nearly ten years of experience leading both the provincial council and the local Edmonton Branch of the UCC.[3] She has contributed on an international, national and provincial scale.[4]

With 20+ years of experience as a Senior Human Resource Manager, she has experience with both federal and provincial governments.[3] During her time with the government, she focused on employee engagement and was acknowledged for driving diversity, equity and inclusion in recruiting practices and increasing the access of wellness strategies.[2]

In her role as the President of UCC-APC, she has focused on supporting Ukrainians coming to Canada through language programs, welcome events, job fairs, food security, and housing support.[3] She has also focused on government relations and advocacy work with provincial and federal government officials, advocating for basic needs of newcomers and addressing any gaps affecting vulnerable populations.[3]

Boychuk has received the following awards & recognitions:

  • Medal for Assisting Displaced Ukrainians, presented by Brent Collingwood, Governor of Rotary District 5370.[4]
  • Received the Community Wellbeing Grant Program in 2023.[5]
  • Invited by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to meet with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the US Ambassador to Canada, David Cohen,[6] to speak on the community support and services offered to newcomers in Alberta in September of 2023.[4]
  • Met with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in April 2023.[7]
  • Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta) 2022.[8]
  • World Refugee Day Celebration 2022.[9]
  • Hetman Award Recipient 2022.[10]
  • Local Hero with Shumka.[11]
