Origin One is a prolific producer, engineer, songwriter and DJ from Nottingham. His vast skill set has led him to provide the soundtrack for the likes of Bru-C on his number-three UK album ‘Smile’ as an engineer and producer, and Harleighblu on her early albums. He’s produced for the likes of Brum MC Devilman and the legendary MC Spyda amongst many others. His accolades include featuring as UK hip hop legend Klashnekoff’s tour DJ, as well as writing and performing as part of a live orchestra for Natalie Duncan.
His more recent releases with Tru Thoughts took him on a creative journey with long-time collaborator Nanci Corriea. In an electronic exploration of nature and sound, ‘Symphony of Life’ was a stray from the typical Origin One sound, reflective of the industry landscape at the time. His next project returns to Origin One’s roots, infusing roots and reggae with more contemporary electronic dance music.
Over the past fifteen years, he has cultivated his distinct production sound by drawing inspiration and experimentation from UK garage, grime, jungle, D ‘n’ B, dancehall, hip hop, reggae and dub, which he has effortlessly blended into a new generation of UK-influenced bass music, rooted by soundsystem music as the core value. His music productions have been released on various music labels such as; Nice Up! Records, Tru Thoughts and Scotch Bonnet Records to name a few, and have been hand-picked and represented nationally by the likes of David Rodigan, Toddla T, Don Letts, Jamz Supanova, DJ Target and MistaJam. It's no surprise this had led him to perform at venues and festivals from Tokyo to Italy, and become a regular at UK-based festivals such as Boomtown, Bestival, Shambala and Detonate.
Alongside an impressive list of performances, Origin One has provided the soundtrack for countless artists like Irah, Bru-C, Charlie P, Melonyx, Tenor Youthman, XL Mad (Numa Crew), MC Spyda, Devilman, Horseman, Soom T, Gardna, Nanci Corriea, XL Mad, Parly B, Charlie P, Rider Shafique, Warrior Queen, Snowy, and Peppery.
Origin Ones’ new project ‘Step in Time’, released on Tru Thoughts, is a EP illustrating the struggles and experiences various musicians have had over the pandemic, expressed through a snapshot of derivatives of reggae music throughout the decades.
