Omar J. Andino Figueroa is an American lawyer who is currently nominated to serve as Solicitor General of Puerto Rico, making him the fourth highest ranking individual in the Puerto Rico Department of Justice. Prior to this, he served has Deputy Solicitor General from January 2, 2021, at the start of Pierluisi administration, until Governor Jennifer González Colón sent his nomination to the Senate on January 1, 2025.[1]
Career
[edit]As Deputy Solicitor General, Andino has handled and argued for the Goverment of Puerto Rico high profile cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law in civil procedure issues and is part of the Board of Directors of the Federalist Society Lawyers Chapter.
With studies in economics, Andino has a history of academic excellence, including the Grand Prize of the Faculty and the Bar Association Award, which was awarded to the student with the highest Academic Index in his class upon graduating from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law.
Andino also has work experience in the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, in the office of Associate Justice Rivera García, and private practice at the Marini Pietrantoni Muñiz law firm where he focused on handling commercial litigation at the state and federal levels.[2]
