Olivier Murad (born 21 December 1993) is a Haitian-American[5] mixed martial artist. He competes in the Featherweight division.[6][7]

Early career

[edit]

Murad made his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) debut on 17 March 2018 against Asim Zaidi on the preliminary card of Shogun Fights in Florida.[5][8] Murad defeated Zaidi by KO at 0:37 of Round 1 for his first professional victory.[8]

Murad's interest in mixed martial arts started when he was in high school as he watched Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin and Georges St-Pierre vs. Matt Serra 2. After rising through the Amateur ranks Murad joined Freedom Fighters inspired by the likes of Yoel Romero and Alex Caceres.[9] Murad has been described as having a well-rounded skillset and a high fight IQ.[10][5]

Murad faced Muhammad Naimov for the vacant Titan FC Featherweight Championship at Titan FC 67. He won the bout by unanimous decision (49–46, 48–47, 48–47).[11]

After winning the Titan FC title, Murad was given a spot on Dana White's Contender Series 45 against ONE Championship veteran, Xie Bin, a 23-year old top prospect from China who had just won his last seven matches.[5][12] Until this point, Murad has had trouble matching up with opponents he agreed to fight; either he was turned down, had offers withdrawn or injury. Out of 24 fighters who had received offers from Murad's corner, Bin was the only one who had accepted to enter a fight with him. Murad was quoted saying, “[…] I didn’t expect so many people would be afraid to fight me.”[9]

On 26 October 2021, Murad went on to defeat Bin by a narrow margin by a split decision (28–29, 29–28, 29–28). Though despite this victory, Murad was not offered a UFC contract.[13][14] UFC President Dana White had told Murad that he “[needed] to build experience and win a few more”.[9]

At the Legacy Fighting Alliance: 134, Murad was featured against Milko Tucto who had just missed the featherweight limit by 0.4 pounds. Murad was defeated by Tucto in a split decision (28–29, 29–28, 28–29) for his first loss as an MMA fighter.[15]

On 2 June 2023, Murad was the co-main event against Guilherme Faria at the Xtreme Fighting Championships: Detroit Grand.[16][17] At the weigh-in, there was a 147.6 to 145.6 disparity for Faria. Murad was defeated by Faria in an unanimous decision (28–29, 27–30, 27–30).[18]

After suffering back-to-back defeats, Murad faced Tom Pagliarulo for the vacant CZ Featherweight Championshp at Combat Zone 82. Murad defeated Pagliarulo by submission at 1:43 of Round 3 capturing his 3rd professional title.[19]

On 21 September 2024, Murad made his debut as a lightweight at the 247 FC's Brawl in the Burgh 23 against Khama Worthy and won by unanimous decision.[20][3]
