Oliver Hutton (born 3rd October 2007) is a Political Artist known for his tragic themes and use of mixed media. His art combines many political influences to explore themes of youth empowerment, South African history and current affairs.
Hutton was born in Johannesburg and is currently in High School. His artistic journey began with his introduction into design and visual arts. He has since developed a distinctive approach characterized by his political influences.
Hutton's first piece of work from 2023, Aluta, is a wooden sculpture that shows contrasting images of modern day South Africa and Apartheid held up by metal rods, representing prison bars. The name Aluta comes from the word used by many Africans to mean “struggle for freedom and liberation” that originally derives from the Portuguese phase, “A luta continua”. More recently, in 2024 he created a collage piece named Torn that depicts the distribution of political party votes by province in the 29 May National Elections in South Africa.
