Oldest house in Tulsa

Tulsa's Oldest House (still in existence) is located in Owen Park Northwest of Downtown Tulsa.[1]

History

[edit]

The house was built in 1885 at 400 North Cheyenne and was the parsonage home of Rev. Sylvester Morris, who was a Methodist missionary and founder of several churches in the Tulsa area. One of the significances of the house is the fact that it was built before the Land Rush of 1889, the first time ceded lands from Native American tribes were opened up to settlers, who lined up before being allowed to rush into the territory to claim land.[2][3]
