Oguaa Senior High Technical School abbreviated and popularly known as OSTECH is located in the central region specifically Cape Coast. Founded in the year 1991[1], the school was formerly called Bakatsir Methodist Technical School ( popularly known as BAMSTECH).[2] It was first located at Bakatsir upon establishment but had to relocate to its present habitation at Ekon on the Aggrey Memorial - Holy Child Senior High School road.[3][4] It is currently a grade C[4] school with a student population of over 1000 pupils. The school offers 7 courses currently and seeks to expand its fields of discipline. The School runs a boarding and day system. The school has vowed to keep set standards of discipline within and amongst the students and staff. These codes of conduct can be found in the school's handbook.

The school, established in 1974, initially had a modest start. It served a limited catchment area with few attendees. The institution began with just 30 students and three teachers, offering only three different programs. In 1990, it gained accreditation as a Senior Secondary School.[5][6] In 1990, the school received accreditation as a Senior Secondary School. Following its modest beginnings, student enrollment rapidly increased starting in 1991, leading to a doubling of the student body by 1992. This surge in enrollment brought about challenges related to inadequate facilities. For nearly 14 years, the school operated out of temporary wooden structures. The growing student population made the situation untenable, necessitating the construction of a permanent 12-unit classroom block, which included offices for the general administration, accounting, and the headmistress. This project was funded by GETFUND.[6]

Although the new building initially met the school's needs, continued growth in student numbers soon outpaced the available infrastructure. This prompted media attention and mobilization efforts by parents and teachers to advocate for further improvements at Oguaa Senior High Technical School.[5]

  2. General Arts - Economics, Christian Religious Studies(CRS), Geography, Elective Mathematics, Government, Literature in English, History, French and Fante.
  3. Agricultural Science - Animal Husbandry, General Agriculture, Physic and Chemistry.
  4. Business - Financial Accounting, Elective Mathematics, Business Management, and Cost Accounting.
  5. Technical - Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity and Auto Mechanics.
  6. Home Economics - Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Management in Living, Economics, General Knowledge in Arts.
  7. Visual Arts - Ceramics, Picture Making, General Knowledge in Arts

Infrastructure[edit]

The school has well equipped I.C.T.(Information Communication Technology), Chemistry and Physics laboratories which do serve the students a great deal of practical services/sessions. There are five classroom blocks namely block A, B, C and D and a technical block on the new site of the campus and about six old classroom structures at the old block. The dinning hall of the school can be found at the old site with a holding capacity of about 700 - 800 students. Also, there are two massive structures/ buildings which are being used as dormitories for the boarding students, one for the ladies and the other fir the gents. It has a mildly equipped technical laboratory for the technical students.

Uniform[edit]

The main color code for the school is deep blue and yellow. The yellow color is mostly seen in the ladies uniform. The school has a uniform style for males and females. The ladies have an overall blue dress with a yellow collar while the guys wear blue shirt with kaki shorts. There is also a designated Wednesday wear which was introduced recently, its a white and blue-black wear coupled with black socks and shoes, a school tie and the school vest. The ladies have a blue-black skirt while the gentlemen have blue-black trousers. The school also has a dedicated Friday wear of which the ladies have it in a straight dress form whereas the gents wear it with khaki shorts. Student are expected to be in sandals on Fridays.
