Nations Fresh Foods is an independently owned, multi-cultural grocery store chain in Ontario, Canada, founded on August 28, 2012, in Woodbridge, Vaughan, Ontario. The chain has 4 stores; the first store was opened in Woodbridge, Ontario on August 28, 2012, the second store opened in Hamilton, Ontario, in Lloyd D. Jackson Square on July 13, 2013, the third store opened in Mississauga, Ontario on February 1, 2017. The fourth store, considered their flagship store, was opened on November 16, 2017, in Toronto, at the Stock Yards Village mall, inside a former Target Canada location which contains Happy Kingdom, an indoor playground and arcade in addition to typical grocery store and food offerings.

Each store has groceries that are mainly imported from Asia as well as other countries. Common grocery items can also be found in other stores. Nations Fresh Foods provides food dining at every location; a hot bar (Woodbridge location), a Buffet (Hamilton location), Hot Bar (Mississauga and Toronto), Coffee Bar, and Pho Restaurant, Juice/Bubble Tea bar, Sushi/Dim Sum bar, Chinese BBQ station, and North American food. Its parent company, Oceans Fresh Group, also owns Oceans Fresh Foods Market stores, an affiliated chain of stores. According to the company, Nations are considered " a new, higher-end, banner store".[4]

Established in 2013, Ample Supermarket was founded to serve the diverse communities of Ontario by providing a wide range of international and local products. The first store opened in Brampton, followed by expansions into Toronto.[5]

The company’s leadership is headed by Frank Ho, who serves as Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of the Oceans Fresh Group. Under his leadership, the company has seen continued growth and expansion within Ontario.[6] [7] [8]

History

In 2001, Oceans Fresh Food Group opened Grant’s Foodmart, further solidifying its commitment to providing high-quality products at competitive prices, with a particular focus on fresh produce, meats, and specialty international foods. [citation needed]

Additionally in 2008, the group launched Oceans Fresh Food Market, including notable locations such as the 410 @7 centre store in Brampton and the Shoppers World Brampton store, both of which served the local community with a wide variety of products. [citation needed]

In 2012, the company introduced Nations Fresh Foods, a multicultural grocery store chain, with the first store opening in Woodbridge on August 28, 2012. The second Nations store opened in downtown Hamilton on July 13, 2013, followed by the third Nations store in Mississauga on February 1, 2017. The flagship Nations store opened on November 16, 2017, in Toronto at the Stock Yards Village mall.[9] [10]

A fifth Nations store is expected to open in Brampton on January 9, 2025, replacing the Oceans Fresh Food Market at Shoppers World Brampton, which closed on November 27, 2024.[11][12]

The head office of the parent company is located in Mississauga, Ontario. In total, the parent company owns 8 stores: 5 Nations Fresh Foods stores, 2 Oceans Fresh Foods Market stores, 2 Ample Supermarkets and 1 Grant's Foodmart store, which is another affiliate chain. 2 of the stores are located in Brampton, Ontario, 3 in Mississauga, Ontario, along with the head office, 1 in Vaughan, Ontario, 1 in Hamilton, Ontario, and 1 in Toronto, Ontario.[13][14]
