Swimming Programs
[edit]OAK has over 600 athletes at various competitive levels, ranging from novice levels through to nationally ranked competitors. The club offers 5 programs for swimmers.[3]
- Acorns ("Love to Swim"): Acorns is a pre-competitive swim program for individuals ages 10 years and younger. It is a fun and positive learning environment where swimmers develop a love for swimming. They will be introduced to the foundational skills required to move on to the MINI OAKS program such as floating, kicking, breathing, balance, and streamlining.
- Mini OAKS ("Love Competitive Swimming"): The MINI OAKS program is for beginner competitive swimmers ages 12 years and younger. MINI OAKS is an action-packed, educational program where swimmers will develop a love for competitive swimming. A sense of sportsmanship, team spirit and a love of the sport are core values of the MINI OAKS program. Swimmers will challenge themselves, learn advanced techniques in the four competitive strokes, develop speed and be introduced to racing.
- Development ("Love OAK"): The goal of the Development program is for swimmers to master essential technical skills that will give them the foundation to be successful competitive swimmers. Swimmers will work towards a mastery of all four competitive strokes and underwater kick. Swimmers will learn to train, learn to compete and develop a passion for racing. The program will focus on the development of the aerobic system as a base for future physiological development. Swimmers will focus on Freestyle and IM training/racing
- PERFORMANCE ("Love to Win"): The goal of the Performance program is to support our swimmers to reach their top potential. Swimmers will work towards a mastery of foundational skills and introduce advanced race and technical skills. Swimmers in the Performance stream will compete towards Championship level competitions. Swimmers will begin to focus on their best individual events while still maintaining a connection to IM and Freestyle training. Swimmers in the Performance program will develop the leadership and character traits to become ambassadors of OAK.
