Nourished by Time is the stage name of singer and producer Marcus Brown. In 2023, Brown released his debut album Erotic Probiotic 2 to critical acclaim, landing him on several best of 2023 lists.

Early life

[edit]

Brown was raised in Baltimore, Maryland.[1] In high school, Brown played bass drum and trombone for his school marching band and symphonic band, and he also began learning guitar for the jazz band.[2] At the age of 17, Brown entered the Berklee College of Music.[1] During his sophomore year, he started writing music and experimenting with synthesizers,[3] releasing several albums under the aliases Riley With Fire and Mother Marcus.[1]

Career

[edit]

After graduation, Brown created Nourished by Time, which was originally intended as a more visually based performance project.[4] Following his 2022 EP Erotic Probiotic with Scenic Route Records, Nourished by Time released his debut studio album Erotic Probiotic 2 in April 2023. The album began to garner positive mainstream attention for its artistic blend of R&B, hip hop, and new wave[5] and was featured on several best of 2023 lists, including Pitchfork's 50 Best Albums of 2023 list.[6] Nourished by Time then signed with the London-based XL Recordings, and in 2024, he released Catching Chickens to similar acclaim.[2]
