The Norwegian Raid of the Rus was a military campaign in 997 led by Eiríkr Hákonarson to the Kievan Rus'. The campaign ended as a success to the Norwegians who ended up destroying the city of Ladoga. Eiríkr Hákonarson led the raid as revenge for Olaf Tryggvason seizing power in Norway.
The raid
[edit]Although there arent any contemporary sources of this event, in the 1980s, Soviet archaeologists unearthed evidence which showed a burning of Ladoga in the late 10th century.[1]
