Popcorn is a whole-grain food and represents one of the most popular snack foods for consumers in a large part of the world. National Popcorn Day is a day celebrating popcorn snacks in the United States on January 19th[1]. It is not clear when the first National Popcorn Day was celebrated.
Many countries have designated specific days as celebrations, commemorations, or acknowledgments of certain types of food and drink. See List of Food Days
One theory has National Popcorn Day associated with the NFL Super Bowl, which up until 2002, fell in January[2] and popcorn was a popular TV watching snack. It was the National Popcorn Board decided that this fluffy treat needed a day of celebration and recognition of its own, and thus was born Popcorn day.[3] In 2003, a newspaper stated that January 19th, and not January 30th, was National Popcorn Day, and the date has stuck ever since![4]
