The National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), known in Polish as Narodowe Centrum Badań Jądrowych, is a Polish research institution specializing in nuclear physics, nuclear energy, and related fields. It is located in Świerk, near Otwock, Poland. The center is one of the largest scientific institutes in Central Europe. On the premises of NCBJ in Świerk, there is the Maria Reactor – commissioned in December 1974, with a thermal power of 30 MW. It is the first reactor produced in Poland. Currently, it is used for experimental purposes and for the production of radiopharmaceuticals.
