Musicbed is a licensing platform that provides music for various media productions. Founded in 2011 by Daniel McCarthy[1] and headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas[2], Musicbed maintains a library of around 60,000 songs[3] available for licensing. The company's name derives from the industry term "music bed," which refers to the background music track in a video production.
History
[edit]Founding and early years (2011–2015)
[edit]Daniel McCarthy, who had a background in photography, design, and filmmaking, created Musicbed to provide music tracks for filmmakers and content creators.[4]
The company started operations in 2012 with a roster of 35 independent artists.[5] From the start Musicbed offered only à la carte song licensing. This approach allowed customers to purchase licenses for individual songs as needed.
Recent years (2015 - present)
[edit]Musicbed launched Filmsupply, a film footage licensing platform, in 2015.[6]
In 2016, Musicbed announced a partnership with Nashville's Sun Record Company to make 1,100 tracks available for licensing.[7]
In 2018, Musicbed introduced memberships[8], later renamed into subscriptions.[9]
In March 2022, Musicbed restructed under FM[10], a parent company that includes several sister brands as of 2024.[11]
In 2023, Musicbed expanded its services by introducing a specialized division focused on serving the television and film industry.[12]
