Modou Mbaye (born September 24, 1962) is a Senegalese businessperson, telecommunications pioneer, and aeronautical manager. He is the founder of Hydrotechnique, a company specializing in seawater desalination, drinking water purification, and renewable energy systems, and Senebati, a real estate company.
Early life and education
[edit]Mbaye was born on September 24, 1962, in Kaolack, Senegal. He is of the Wolof ethnic group and was raised in Saint Louis, Senegal. He pursued his studies at the Université Saint-Louis de Bruxelles (USB) in Belgium. He went to CESAG, where he completed his master’s degree in business management. In 1999, Mbaye went to Italy, where he took helicopter sales technical training, and later to the USA, where he learned aeronautical management. Mbaye is proficient in Wolof, French, and English.
Career
[edit]Mbaye began his career in the banking sector in Senegal. In 1984, he joined Senegalese Union Bank (USB) as an intern. He worked there for over two years and then joined AVS as an accountant in 1988. The same year, Mbaye founded NEDEM, a company that sells computer hardware and digital conferencing systems. As part of its activities, the company set up a digital conferencing system at the PAD (Port Autonome de Dakar) and at the Meridien President Hotel.
His entrepreneurial ambitions led him to establish Hydrotechnique, which focuses on seawater desalination using reverse osmosis, drinking water purification, and renewable energy systems, including solar and wind energy.
Mbaye founded HYDROTECHNIQUES – DAKAR JET CENTER, a company specializing in seawater desalination, drinking water purification, and renewable energy systems. The company also represents brands in the maritime sector, such as OCEA and Gisman. Mbaye organizes a biennial trade fair dedicated to water, which brings together economic operators, industrialists, institutional decision-makers, international organizations, NGOs, and various stakeholders in the hydraulic and sanitation sectors. As of 2024, the fair is in its sixth edition. Following the success of Hydrotechnique, Mbaye founded Senebati, a company operating in the real estate sector.
In 2004, Mbaye established a partnership with Weather Modification Inc. and Fargo Jet Center in Fargo, Minnesota, focusing on aeronautical management training and the sale of cloud-seeding aircraft. This partnership was consolidated in 2010 by delivering two King Air B200 aircraft to the Government of Senegal under the "Bawaan" project. Hydrotechnique’s Dakar Jet Center has since undertaken several projects in Africa, including a private jet center project in Senegal and an authorized Leonardo Helicopter maintenance center.
Mbaye's company collaborates with several international partners, including Weather Modification Incorporated, Fargo Jet, and Leonardo Helicopters. These partnerships facilitate various projects across Africa in countries such as Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Gabon, Mauritania, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, and Cameroon.
