Michelle Edgina Axille (born in Surabaya, May 29, 2006) is an Indonesian junior national skating athlete. She began her debut in 2012 and has achieved various accomplishments in national and international figure skating competitions.[1] She won a gold medal in the Technical Platinum category and received the Best Jumper award at the Bucharest Open on May 8, 2021.[2]
Career
[edit]Michelle Edgina Axille started skating at the age of six.[3] Since then, she has participated in several competitions and championships, including Skate Asia 2013, the Skate Ontario Regional Series 2018, and the Bucharest Open 2021.
Axille first encountered figure skating during a birthday celebration at an ice rink in Jakarta, Indonesia. On that day, Axille found herself intrigued by figure skating and joined a training program. She then trained under the guidance of Alberto Widjaja while also pursuing formal education through the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).[4]
Off the rink, Axille also trains in dance, ballet, yoga, core strength, and flexibility exercises.[5]
Early career
[edit]Under the guidance of coach Alberto Widjaja, Axille's figure skating skills flourished. She then registered as a member of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI) Asia. Axille participated in many local ice skating competitions, particularly at the Sky Rink in Jakarta.[3] After that, she began competing at other rinks in various competitions.
Seasons
[edit]2013–2014
[edit]In August 2013, a seven-year-old Axille participated in her first international competition, Skate Asia, organized by the Ice Skating Institute in Bangkok, Thailand. In this competition, Axille won four gold medals and one silver medal in the Beta category.[3]
Still in the same season, she also participated in a competition held by the International Skating Union, the Indonesia Figure Skating National Championship (IFSNC) in Bandung. She won first place in this competition.[6]
2014–2015
[edit]In December 2014, Axille participated in the South East Asia Trophy, a regional competition under the International Skating Union. This competition was open to all registered skaters in Southeast Asia.[7] In this competition, Axille won a silver medal in the Basic Juvenile category. This victory also marked the conclusion of Indonesia's first year participating in a competition organized by the International Skating Union (ISU).[8]
2018–2019
[edit][[File .jpg|thumb|Michelle Edgina Axille in Reykjavik, 2019]] In this season, Axille participated in the 2018 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy and later in the 2019 Reykjavik International Games, both in the Advanced Novice Girls category. In these two competitions, Axille did not win a medal, finishing in 18th and 13th place, respectively.[9]
In October 2018, Axille also participated in a competition organized by Skate Canada, the Skate Ontario Octoberfest Sectional Series in Barrie, Canada. She competed under the Mariposa School of Skating banner in the Juvenile Women Group 2 (U14) category and placed first with a score difference of 1.98 points.[10] In the same month, Axille competed in another competition, also under Skate Ontario, Skate Skokie in Huntsville, where she placed second.[11]
2020–2021
[edit]Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Axille did not participate in any competitions in 2020. After competing in Dongguan at the end of 2019,[9] Axille did not have any competition records until she competed in the 2021 Bucharest Open in Romania. Axille won a gold medal in the Technical Platinum category and received the Best Jumper award.[12]
Personal life
[edit]Axille is currently pursuing formal education through the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and plans to attend Jakarta International College after graduation.[13] Axille's hobbies include yoga, ballet, and strength training.
