Mediavolo was originally a five-member musical group established in 1999[1]. They create genre-fluid compositions, often merging art pop, shoegaze, dreampop, and classic rock. Their unique, ethereal sound was conceived in Brest, France. [2] Mediavolo has since become a duo, masterminded by their vocalist and lyricist Géraldine Le Cocq, and their producer and multi-instrumentalist, Jacques Henry[3]. The relatively obscure group only recently began to see more mainstream exposure, after gaining a significant internet following, specifically by trending on TikTok.

History

[edit]

The group was founded with the talent of Geraldine Le Cocq and Jacques Henry, as well as the contributions of drummer Eric Le Pape and keyboardist Fabrice Duhamel[4].

Le Cocq and Henry “officially took over as a duo in 2004.”[5] Both played instruments from a young age, channeling this lifelong passion into their music and citing influence from artists like Kate Bush. Mediavolo began a hiatus in 2012 so that they could work on their other creative projects, exploring more electronic sounds[6]. In 2016, they began to brainstorm and compose tracks for the album that is now known as Away Within, their latest release. This release coincided with blossoming success for their much older tracks online.

Albums

[edit]

Mediavolo self-released their first few debut albums as a five-piece act in 1999 known as Carré, Triangle, and Rond[7]. They released their next album, Soleil Sans Retour, in 2003 under the label Saravah. After transitioning to a duo, they released A Secret Sound in 2006. This was their most commercially successful album, with the single “Mass Anesthesia” becoming particularly popular online[1]. Next they released Unaltered Empire in 2008, and Modern Cause in 2011, both under the label Prikosnovénie.

After their more than decade-long hiatus, the duo most recently released Away Within in 2024[7]. This album was postponed several times, with the composition process beginning in 2016[1].

EPs

[edit]

In 2001, Mediavolo released the EP Perdu Dans L’Espace, under B14 Records[7]. This EP featured four tracks: “Perdu Dans L’Espace”, “Lili”, “XXL”, and “Le Gouffre Chimère”. They released Cryogénie, featuring an edited version of “Cryogénie” and another track, “La Fille De Ryan”.
