Md Shah Alam is a Deputy Inspector General of the Bangladesh Police who serves as head of the Special Branch.[1] Prior to join SB, he was DIG at Bangladesh Railway Police.[2]

Career

Alam joined at Bangladesh Police through 12th BCS (Police) Batch in 1991. He promoted to the current post on June, 2023.[3] He created the 'Third Eye' for Special Branches and District Special Branches in 1999-2002. From 1999 to November 2009, during his 10-year tenure in the Special Branch, he transformed a paper-based office into an IT-based intelligence agency by introducing computer technology to various branches of the Special Branch, including the Immigration Police.[4]

On 13 August, 2024 then SB Chief Monirul Islam has been removed from his current post and attached to police headquarters. Shah Alam got Bangladesh Police Medal in 2024.[5]
