McCubbin Lake is a lake in the Algoma District in Ontario, Canada, around 30 miles north of Lake Superior. One mile to the west, there is Hammer Lake, a lake used for fishing, swimming etc. Highway 17 is close to the lake.
McCubbin Lake has a size of around 0,1 square miles and a cercumference of about 2.6 miles.
The lake was named McCubbin Lake in memory of Warrant Officer Class II Francis Cole McCubbin[1], who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Europe between 1942 and 1943. After a raid against Berlin in the night of 2./3.12.1943 the 21 year old air gunner died when his Halifax II Bomber of 35. Squadron crashed at Mettmann, near Düsseldorf, Germany. His crew members were also killed.[2][3][4]
