Mary Rutan Hospital is a general medical-surgical hospital accredited by DNV GL, a global quality assurance and risk management company.[2] Its efforts to provide high-quality patient care have earned professional recognition.[3]
Mary Rutan Hospital and Health Center
[edit]The Mary Rutan Health Center opened in 2018 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. The 74,200-square-foot facility houses the community's first fully integrated, one-stop Urgent Care facility. The new Health Center offers expanded physical rehabilitation services, including the addition of a temperature-controlled therapy pool, a new sports medicine facility, pain management, and occupational medicine services.[1]
The three-floor facility was expanded in 2023 to accommodate growing service lines, including orthopedics and sports medicine, ENT, neurology, audiology, and podiatry. The additional third floor offers an 18,000-square-foot space with 21 private exam rooms, onsite imaging, and a waiting room.[2]
Mary Rutan Foundation
[edit]The Mary Rutan Foundation's mission is to create philanthropic relationships to support patient care services, medical scholarships, medical equipment, and capital development while promoting health and wellness through educational programs and services to the community.[1]
The Foundation boosts emergency preparedness in several local schools. With the support of Mary Rutan Foundation funding, several AEDs were recently purchased to use at their partner schools. The hospital also stated that it is committed to ongoing efforts in this and other areas of sports cardiology as it continues to serve its community.[2]
The Foundation offers programs that invest in local healthcare and community members. Through the Scholarship & Loan program, the Foundation offers annual scholarships and loans to local students to assist with medical career education expenses. Since 1992, over $2.35 million has been awarded to Logan County residents pursuing a degree in a medical field.[3] In addition to Mary Rutan Foundation's annual Medical Scholarship and Loan Program, the Foundation offers scholarships for Logan County residents pursuing certification to become EMTs or paramedics.[4] The Mary Rutan Foundation offers a Community Wellness Grant program. The Foundation assesses needs in the area and identifies a high-priority health risk and need for Logan County. In 2023-2024, mental health was chosen as the county's most pressing health concern for youth and adults. The Wellness Grants were given to chosen programs focusing on mental health initiatives targeting youth. Programs were required to be Logan County schools, and grant requests were from $500 to $5,000.[1] A total of nearly $450,000 has been awarded since the inception of the grant program.[2]

History
[edit]Mary Rutan Health came into existence as a gift from Rebecca R. Williams in 1916. Williams specified that the property, deeded to the city of Bellefontaine, Ohio, was to be used for a hospital and to be named in memory of her mother, Mary Rutan. Construction began, and in 1919, the doors opened to a 25-bed, two-floor hospital. Multiple expansions have occurred during the organization's 100-plus-year history, each time increasing services offered to the community.[1]
