His earlier, distinguished career as an international lawyer was capped by his role as a partner in the firm of Sidley & Austin, where he practiced in the Republic of Singapore; New York City and London. His service in education also includes service as a life trustee of Northwestern University and adjunct professor of mergers and acquisitions at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management.[1] He is a previous vice chair of the Biden Foundation.[2]

On November 22, 2022, President Biden selected Angelson to serve as a member on the President's Intelligence Advisory Board.[3][4]

On May 28, 2024, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Angelson to serve as the next United States ambassador to Norway.[1][5] On June 18, 2024, his nomination was sent to the Senate.[6] His nomination is pending before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.[7]
