Biography

[edit]

Marjan Zdravković-Resavac[2][3]is best remembered as a Serbian revolutionary who participated with distinction in both the First and the Second Serbian Uprising.[4]Marijan (Маријан Здравковић, Ресавац) is mentioned in Serbian epic folk songs along with other leading revolutionaries.[5]

Marjan Zdravković was educated in a district school located at the Miokovac monastery complex that enjoyed a great reputation among the people as a historical, cultural, spiritual and educational centre. The school in the monastery had many famous alumni, Petar Oberknez of Resava, Stevan Sinđelić, knyaz of Resava, and others.

During the First Serbian Uprising, the monastery was renovated for the second time by the hieromonk Melentije Pavlović, and Karađorđe donated a bell. That bell was taken to Kragujevac in 1830 for the ceremony that announced a newly-liberated Serbia.
