Mallie Elizabeth McKenzie is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for the Portland Thorns.[1]
High School Career
[edit]McKenzie attended Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia where she is the school’s all-time leading scorer. She was the 2018 7A Player of the Year. McKenzie played club for UFA Milton and helped lead the team to three Georgia State Cup championships.[2]
McKenzie ran track her Senior year and placed third at the 7A state championship in the 800M.[3]
College Career
[edit]McKenzie attended the University of Georgia.[2] She left the program as the leader in career appearances at 98, and fourth in assists with 22. She also scored 6 goals while primarily playing the wingback position.[2]
During McKenzie’s 2022 Senior year she took part in her team's first NCAA appearance in 8 years. During her 2023 Graduate year, UGA won both the SEC East season title and the SEC Championship for the first times in program history. UGA ended the season with the highest ranking in program history. McKenzie was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team.[2]
Professional Career
[edit]McKenzie was a non-roster invite to the 2024 Portland Thorns camp and was offered a contract for the 2024 season. She made her professional debut in the NWSL X Liga Femenil Summer Cup against Club Tijuana. She started all three Summer Cup matches and registered an assist against the Seattle Reign. McKenzie made her NWSL debut against Gotham FC on August 24. She also started two matches during the CONCACAF W Champions Cup.[1]
McKenzie is under contract with the Thorns for the 2025 season.[1]
