Justice Marsur Narayan Moorthy was an Indian lawyer and judge on the Madras High Court[1] from 1981 until his death in 1983.

Life

Moorthy attended Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai earning B.A. and B.L. degrees.[2]and enrolled as an advocate at Madras High Court on July 31, 1950. He worked as a junior under his Uncle noted Indian lawyer V. L. Ethiraj. was married to Dr. Kausalya Moorthy, an obstetrician.[3] The couple had two sons and two daughters. His elder daughter Priyamvada is a Psychiatrist in the United States.[4] His younger daughter Premalatha was head of the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Mathematics at the University of Madras in Chennai.[5].

Justice Moorthy worked for Ethiraj until Ethiraj's death in 1960.[6]He was offered judgeships in 1977 and 1978 but declined both times. He was appointed as an additional judge to the High Court on April 22, 1981 for a period of two years.[7]He passed away in June 1983.[8] There is an endowment at Ethiraj College for Women in his and his wife's name.[9]
