Lukanand Kshetrimayum is an International Titleholder, actor, film director and producer, from North East India who works in India and overseas in Southeast Asia, primarily Philippines.[1][2][3][4] He is known for his International title Mister International under the Mister International Organization in the Philippines.[2] [5]Lukanand is also the recipient of State Government Award and the best film director award for his film "Meitan Araba" in SSS Manifa 2018.[5][2][6][7][8]

He started his filmmaking journey since 2008, working as one of the youngest directors in the Indian Films, primarily Manipuri. He is the recipient of Manipur State Government Film Award for his debut feature film "Meitan Araba"[2].The film earned 18 Awards and nominations at the 8th SSS MANIFA 2019, winning the Best Feature Film Award and the best film director award.[9][6][10][5]

Early life and education

He was born on 8 September in the Imphal West district of Manipur. His father Bimal Kshetrimayum is a business man and his mother Dr. Sucheta Elangbam, is a doctorate in linguistics and lawyer.[citation needed] Lukanand's grandfather Sahityaratna Late. Shri. Elangbam Sonamani Singh, was an retd. IAS Officer, an eminent writer and Sahitya Akademi Awardee.[11][12][13][14] Lukanand has a royal lineage as his grandmother late. Rajkumari Kamalasana Devi, youngest daughter of Rajkumar Sanatomba Singh, Borsenapati kum Yuvaraj of Manipur. Her grandmother was brought up in the Royal Palace Imphal with her brother the king, Late. Maharaj Bodhachandra.[15][16]

2008-Present

In 2008, Lukanand Kshetrimayum started making short films at a very young age, his first short film, Thambal Pareng was shot with all non-actors from his locality.[2][17] [18] Following his passion, he made several tele-films, such as Television Film Ashengba Shaktam (The True face), Documentary Film Sangai, Takhidraba Khonjel (The Unheard Voice), which made him received recognition as The Best Student in Co-curriculum (filmmaking) at the State Government and RKS Award. Winner of Best Writing in the Royal Riders Award, The Youngest Director recognition from several media outlets.[19][2] Lukanand at the age of 11, participated in CBSE filmmaking competitions during his school days. It’s under the banner of ‘Marvels of North East India’ that CBSE runs these competitions to promote awareness about culture and traditions of the north eastern states.[20]

2015

At the age of 12, Lukanand ventured into more professional film shooting, hiring seasoned artists and technicians. He wrote the story himself and directed various short films that conveyed social and educational messages, focusing on the importance of physical and mental well-being, as well as presenting society values and cultural heritage. Among his films, "Nouwa Eikhoibu" (We The Children) won prestigious awards at The State Short Fiction Festival in Manipur. The film notably features star artists  such as, National Awardee Tonthoi Leishangthem and popular actor Sadananda Hamon.[2][21] At the age of 13, Lukanand stepped into the commercial film market and with a desire to foster cross-cultural celebration in the North East region of India, he took on the directorial and production venture of making a bilingual feature film based in the a marvelous landscapes of Assam and Manipur.[2] For the film shoot and production process, Lukanand visited Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland to associate and work with the various industry experts, media person and artiste outside the state.[2]

2016

Lukanand's vision of founding a film academy in the near future led him to launch filmmaking workshops and training classes via his production company.[2]

These courses were designed to provide basic and advance education in various aspects in filmmaking, including acting, directing, cinematography, scriptwriting, and other related skills. More than one hundred participants got the opportunity to get training from esteemed industry leaders, acclaimed professionals, and technical experts through master classes and practical sessions.[2] Various projects worked during these workshops classes were produced by his production team.[2]

The participants were given exposure a diverse spectrum of learning and shaping perspectives, helping aspiring filmmakers and budding artiste to gain valuable knowledge in films and learn from the best faculty in the field.[2] The filmmaking classes not only gave a foundation for knowledge but also helped as a networking opportunity, giving chance to the participants to connect with like-minded people and establish film lovers community within the industry.[2]

Lukanand garnered strong support from several prominent figures in the field.[2]

Eminent filmmaker Shri. Aribam Syam Sharma provided unwavering backing to Lukanand's vision.[2] Irom Maipak, an awardee of the prestigious National Film Award, became a part of and contributed to the academy classes and endeavors.. Smt. S. Thaninleima, an alumna of the esteemed National School of Drama, New Delhi joined the working as an acting mentor, adding a layer of credibility for the filmmaking classes. [2]

During the filmmaking workshops, award winning directors such as, E. Suvas, O. Gautam, Kh. Bishwamitra and other were part of the foundation and initiatives.[2]

In 2018, Lukanand debuted his full length feature film "Meitan Araba", and he became the youngest Film Director in Manipur who directed a full-length feature film certified by Central Board Of Film Certification at the age of 16. The film won the Best Film Award, Best Director Award 2019 at SSS Manipur. The Film also received "Best Debut Film For a Director" at The Manipur State Government Film Award 2019.[6][5][2]

In 2021, Lukanand directed the documentary movie for the official visit of the Vice President Of India to the Institute Of Bioresources And Sustainable Development. [2]The project was produced under the IBSD, The Ministry Of Science & Technology , Government Of India, marked a pivotal milestone in his directorial career, lifting his work profile to a recognized and professional level.[2]The documentation was on the National Seminar on Bioeconomy from Bioresources of North Eastern Region of India. The seminar was graced by Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu. [22]The seminar was also attended by Hon’ble Governor, Shri La Ganesan, Prof. Pulok Mukherjee Director IBSD, and other prominent scholars. Lukanand's production was  the official film partner for the project. [22][2]

Abroad India, Lukanand directed the MI Opening Billboards featuring the models from different countries in fitness and formal wear.[2] The project was held abroad India in collaboration with Shutter Boys Gallery & Thunderbirds Resorts. [2]

Production House

Lukanand's production company, situated in the North Eastern Region of India, Manipur, has been actively engaged in a diverse array of projects throughout the years. These projects encompass commercials, films, music videos, and digital content. Backed by a proficient team of cinematographers and technicians, Lukanand is now embarking on international production endeavors.[2]

With a dedication to deliver unique narratives and visuals, his production house has established as a producer of award wining films that strike a chord with a wide range of topics. In recent times, their influence has extended through partnerships with international corporations and renowned brands, infusing their projects with a distinctive fusion of local essence and worldwide allure.[2]

The production house prioritizes sustainability and community involvement, collaborating frequently with local artists and skilled individuals to support and encourage development in the area. Their efforts encompass workshops and educational initiatives designed to cultivate emerging filmmakers and content producers.[2]

During the year 2018, Lukanand was actively involved in the "Ho Ema" campaign, which sought to educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse in the state. This endeavor required Lukanand to travel to different regions within the state, where he collaborated with addicts and their families to address this pressing issue..[2]

The project led to the production of a music video, crafted by the dedicated crew members, who themselves were victims. This endeavor not only offered a chance for the afflicted individuals to heal but also facilitated their active involvement in society. By harnessing his creative platform, Lukanand was able to utilize this project for a noble purpose.[2]

Lukanand's method of filmmaking combines visual narrative techniques with profound emotional resonance.[2]His filmic viewpoints frequently center on the complexities of interpersonal connections and the unfiltered genuineness of life's instances.[2]

Over the course of his professional Modelling and pageantry journey, he has gained expertise and has had the honor of being extended exclusive invitations to make special appearances and serve as the main attraction at various National and International functions.[2]

Mister International India

Lukanand is the winner of Mister India International title, he won the National right to represent India at the International competition solemnly through a Garnier Men title sponsored event at ITA Cultural Complex, Machkhowa.[23][24] The finalists were chosen through a series of auditions held in various states. Through these auditions, the pageant organizer shortlisted 50 men who competed to win the title. [25][26][27]

18-year-old Lukanand, a class XII student, won the competition in the presence of around 1,000 spectators . [28]

"It’s yet to sink in,” said Lukanand who dedicated the award to his family. [29]The Grand Finale of the event was supported by Garnier Men, Radisson Blu, Vodafone Super Net 4G, Sony Alpha and Sin Denim. [30]

REPRESENTING INDIA

He represented the India solemnly at the 14th Mister International at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines.[31] Competing against contestants from around the globe, Altogether, 35 contestants from across the globe competed for the prestigeous men’s beauty pageant Mister International.[32] [33]The event was a spectacle of charm, talent, and cultural diversity. Each country's representative displayed their individual style, proudly representing their respective Nations with grace and sophistication. During the contest, contenders demonstrated their abilities in different categories such as talent displays, physical tests, and cognitive discussions.[34][35][36][37][38]

Lukanand Kshetrimayum of India was awarded the prestigious title of “Mister International” by the Mister International Organization, under the presidency of Atty. Manuel Deldio in the Philippines. [2][40]The Awarding Ceremony for the title was supported by the esteemed Trinity University Of Asia in Quezon City.[2]

FORMAL RECEPTION AS THE MISTER INTERNATIONAL[2]

Lukanand as the titleholder, accompanied by 25 delegates from various countries, received a cordial welcome and official courtesy call at Luna La Union.[2] Throughout the formal event, Lukanand interacted with the officials, conveyed gratitude, and endeavored to foster a constructive relationship.[2]

Collaboration with Francis Libiran (A-list International designer)[41][2]

Franis Libiran is A-list International designer who was featured on Hollywood Supermodel Tyra Bank’s long-running reality TV show “America’s Next Top Model”.[41][2]

Lukanand teamed up with the fashion designer Francis Libiran for an exclusive solo fashion pictorial, showcasing the designer's exquisite collections, photographed by Raymond Saldana.[2]

Lukanand's television guesting expanded on television shows Internationally. He was invited and appeared as a special highlight guest on television show produced by Net25 company, and following that, various other Pageant coverage media also highlighted his journey in the Philippines.[2] He made notable guest appearances in various places, such as, La Union, Cebu, Pangasinan, South Cotabato, and numerous other places for pageant related events.[2]

Bench Fashion Week 2023[2]

In 2023, Lukanand made a celebrity guesting at the prestigious Bench Fashion Week 2023, held at the bench tower. Post Event, he engaged in interviews and media interactions, receiving an exclusive coverage.[2]

GMA GALA 2023[42][2]

Lukanand walked the Red Carpet of the celebrated event GMA Gala 2023, hosted at the Marriott Hotel in the Philippines.[2] GMA Network gathered the country's brightest stars, executives, media partners, and collaborators via the highly successful “GMA Gala 2023!”[43]

Lukanand was the highlight as the opening performer and special guest at the event of MIPH 2023, which took place at Resorts World in Manila, Philippines. Upon the rising of the opening curtain of the show, Young Filipino Stars such as GMA's Artist MJ Ordillano, Mark Avendano, Kitt Cortez, and Andre John Cue shared the stage with Lukanand.[2]

Collaboration with Novotel - Prana Indian Cuisine by Food Exchange Manila[2]

The collaboration between Lukanand and Novotel for the inauguration of Prana Indian Cuisine took place at the Hotel Novotel in Araneta City Cubao. [2]Novotel Manila Araneta City (NMAC) unveiled Prana Indian Cuisine on March 15, 2023. With an intention of infusing each authentic Indian dish with a revitalizing energy for the enjoyment of the guests' taste buds. The event was graced by the hotel's executive committee, Araneta executives, media partners, hotel partners, and Mr. International 2022 Lukanand Kshetrimayum adding a touch of prestige.[44] [45][2]

Lukanand was the DermaWorld Ambassador for a one year, engaging with the DermaWorld brand to advocate the cause of skin aesthetics through participation in diverse events and promotional endeavors.[2] Through his participation in promoting, he was able to attain and sustain significant collaboration contributed to the advancement of his understanding of dermatological services and maintaining skin wellness.[2]

Lukanand worked with the fashion photographer, Doc Marlon (Canon brand ambassador) showcasing exclusive men's wear from the Filipino designer, Ton Lao.[2] A collaboration of modern design and artistry, capturing the essence of contemporary fashion.[2]

Lukanand has ventured in the world of brand endorsement and promotion campaign, venturing brand promotion for different popular and established brands. [2] Some of his notable shoots are Hugo Boss Watches, Nexa, Gold Gym, L' Odeur Perfume,   Furniture Republic, Beauty Room Salon, Lee Hong Kong, and many other popular domestic and international brands.[2]

From brand engagements and sponsorship with Gold Gym to promoting health products like Indigo Energy Drink Philippines.[2] Additionally, he have also shot wearing renowned clothing brands in the Philippines, including Nat Manilag, Mark Bumgarner, and Edwin Tan, showcasing his versatility and adaptability in the industry.[2]

Charity

Lukanand joined hands with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India on the occasion of the '41st India International Trade Fair' at the Health Pavilion, New Delhi.[46] To promote the theme of the initiative 'Heal in India, Heal by India', he visited the events stalls, spoke to health experts, and doctors and engaged in the ongoing activities.[47][48]
