Draft:Live The Dream: A Polyamory Educational and Support Group

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Live the Dream, is an educational, support, and social group based in Los Angeles California for individuals who are interested in learning about, and getting support, in the practice of polyamory. The group aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for people to learn about and discuss polyamorous relationships, as well as receive support and guidance from others who are also navigating the complexities of non-monogamous relationships.[1]

Live the Dream began as a special interest group of Family Synergy,[1] a Southern California-based non-profit social and educational networking group that began in 1971, to explore alternative loving relationships. [2] Live the Dream, founded by Terry Brussel, Brian Gitt, and Darrell Smith has been in continuous operation since 1987.

The following quote, with minor updating, has appeared in the colophon of every Live the Dream newsletter since 1987, inviting all who have imagination and desire to drop in, visit and perhaps, find the future they are looking for.

“Live the Dream is an education and support group for those who, originally inspired by the writings of Robert Heinlein, Robert Rimmer and Marion Zimmer Bradley, are now ready to LIVE such alternative lifestyles as cooperative living, open relationships and group marriage.  Many of our concepts on multiply committed relationships come from Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land and Moon is a Harsh Mistress.  Live the Dream also sponsors a Nest of Church of All Worlds, the real life, over fifty year old spiritual movement inspired by Stranger in a Strange Land.”

The group offers a variety of resources, including workshops, discussion groups, and social events, to help members explore and understand the principles of polyamory, as well as develop the skills and tools needed to maintain healthy and fulfilling relationships. Additionally, Live the Dream provides a supportive community where individuals can connect with like-minded people, share their experiences, and receive advice and encouragement from others who understand the unique challenges and rewards of polyamory.

Live the Dream holds monthly in person meetings and offers a variety of presenters. Past presenters have included anthropologist Leanna Wolfe, Oberon Zell Ravenheart, founder of Church of All Worlds, the novelist Robert Rimmer, author of The Harad Experiment, and the founders of Family Synergy, Pat Lafollette and Hy Levy. In 2020 the organization began offering remote teleconferencing option and now meetings can be attended in person or remotely. This has allowed the group to invite speakers from all over the country to present programs to the group.

The group puts out a monthly newsletter in both printed and electronic formats. The newsletter covers current events, the topic of that month's presentation, and includes articles of general interest about polyamory.
