The University of Lucknow (UoL), informally known as Lucknow University (LU), is a collegiate, public university, located in Lucknow, India. It was founded in 1921 by an Act of the Lucknow University Act, 1920. As a collegiate university, its main functions are divided between the academic departments of the university and affiliated colleges. Consisting of three colleges at its founding, the University of Lucknow has since become Lucknow's largest institution of higher learning. The university currently consists of 12 faculties and 47 departments distributed across its Main Campus and Second campus and an enrollment of over 16365 regular students and non-formal students. The Governor of Uttar Pradesh serves as the university's chancellor.

The University of Lucknow is composed of 556 affiliated colleges and 17 other recognized institutes[1].
