Draft:List of bus routes in Bucharest

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bus system is the most extensive of all public transport methods in Bucharest, providing 46% of the total number of trips since 2007. After the establishment of the Intra-Community Development Association for Public Transport Bucharest-Ilfov (TPBI), it delegated the management of the transport lines to four operators: STB, Voluntary Transport Service (STV), Ecotrans STCM (owned by the Chitila and Mogoșoaia town halls) and Regio Serv Transport Buftea. Of these, STB operates all urban lines, the others only operate regional lines. As of 2020[citation needed] there is tariff integration between operators, with all lines having the same tariff.

The bus fleet of STB was 1290 units at the end of 2007. In 2011, the withdrawal of old buses from circulation was ordered (without being replaced), so that the circulating fleet (at the level of March) of buses in one working day became 836 vehicles on urban lines and ~15 on suburban lines, buses for urban lines being exclusively Mercedes Citaros. In February 2011, the fleet of buses in circulation on a working day was 1099 units.

History

[edit]

In 1936, the "Communal Society for the construction and operation of trams in Bucharest" obtained the exclusivity of public transport with trams and buses for Bucharest. The company had at its disposal 392 buses built at the Leonida & Co company, based on Renault, Chevrolet and Henschel chassis.

In 2018, simultaneously with the transformation of RATB into a commercial company, TPBI was established, which took over the organization of public transport in Bucharest. In the following year, transport licenses were also offered to the other operators (STV, SCTM, Regio Serv).

Buses, like trolleybuses, do not have a reserved traffic color and therefore their commercial speed is, especially during peak hours, very low (12 km/h). The routes and distances between stations, which until the 1970s allowed travelers to move from any point in the city to any other without having to walk hundreds of meters or even kilometers, remained, despite the demands and projects of the 1990s , as they had been modified in the "enlightened era" of the Ceaușescu leadership, according to a scheme that allows travelers to come from the peripheral districts to certain points in the center and back, but not to circulate in all directions through the city, much less to cross it.

Lines

[edit]

In July 2022 in Bucharest there were 57 regular bus lines (from 100 to 399) serving destinations in the Municipality of Bucharest, 3 temporary bus lines (from 600 to 699), as well as 30 regional routes operated by STB, 39 regional routes operated by STV, 4 regional routes operated by Ecotrans STCM and 2 regional routes operated by Regio Serv Transport Buftea (from 400 to 499) that offer connections with the towns of Micului Ilfov: 1 Decembrie, Bragadiru, Chitila, Clinceni, Chiajna, Dumitrana , Domnești, Dudu, Măgurele, Mogoșoaia, Otopeni, Olteni, Pruni, Popești-Leordeni, Roșu, Șegheș, Vârteju, Zurbaua.

Car park

[edit]

The operators' bus fleet has more than 1128 vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz Citaro Euro 3, Euro 4 and Hybrid

[edit]

In December 2005, RATB awarded a contract for 500 new Mercedes Citaro low-floor, disabled-accessible buses. The first 12 Citaro buses were introduced in June 2006, after which 15 vehicles were delivered every week, up to 400. The last 100 Mercedes Citaro buses were delivered between February and May 2007 and are already in service.

In August 2007, a contract was signed for the supply of 500 Mercedes Citaro 2 buses, which were delivered until 2009 and are equipped with air conditioning.

The City Hall of the Capital purchased 130 Mercedes-Benz Citaro Hybrid buses, which entered the STB equipment in 2020.[9] The value of the contract is 195,268,331.70 lei, without VAT.

Otokar Kent C 10, Kent-C 12 and Kent-C 18

[edit]

In June 2018, the purchase contract was signed for 400 Otokar buses of 10, 12 and 18 m, for a total amount of 458,100,826 lei without VAT. The buses began to be delivered in October of the same year.

ZTE Granton 12 Electric

[edit]

Over time STB launched several tenders for 100 electric buses because there were many appeals. But in the end they won BMC Truck & Bus, importing the Granton 12 Electric bus model produced at ZTE from China.

All 100 buses are ready, all at STB, but they will be more difficult to put on the routes because only 20 slow charging stations for the depots have come, with another 80 stations to come and some fast charging stations at some ends of the line.

From December 6, 2023, 2 copies were put into trials with passengers on line 330 and on December 9, 2023, the line was completed with 6 buses[14]. On December 13, 2023, 2 buses started to run on line 335, being completed with 14 buses on December 23, 2023. .On January 25, 2024, 4 buses began to run on line 311, to be completed with 6. On March 1, 6 buses also started running on line 368.

Karsan eATA-12 and Karsan eATAK-8

[edit]

In November 2022, the city of Chitila started a public procurement for 23 electric buses, of which 13 are 12 meters and 10 are 8 meters. [17] The auction was won by the Karsan company. The buses were delivered at the beginning of 2024.

The eATA-12 buses run on line 476 and will run on the future line 435 (Complex Comercial Băneasa - Pasaj CFR Chitila).

eATAK-8 buses run on route 429 and will also run on route 470.

Otokar e-Kent 12

[edit]

As part of the modernization of the STCM fleet, the town hall of the Mogoșoaia municipality purchased 12 Otokar e-Kent 12 buses through an auction. They arrived at the Otokar representative in November 2023. They are expected to start circulating with passengers in the spring of 2024 after the completion of the bus depot in Chitila.

Historical models

DAC

[edit]

DAC 112 UDM

[edit]

Dac 112 UDM buses were produced by Uzinele Autobuzul Bucharest (later Rocar) between 1979 and 2000. RATB received such vehicles between 1979 and 1993. Currently [when?], the RATB fleet has only two Dac 112 UDM buses, both being used for tours and special runs. Also, some are used as utility vehicles.

DAC 112 UDAn2002

[edit]

In 2002 URAC and IOROM rebuilt two 112UDM buses, installing a new Euro 2 engine. The buses thus obtained are called DAC UDAn2002 (Urban Diesel Year 2002). Both were assigned to the Ferentari Autobase. They were scrapped in 2010.

DAC 117UD

[edit]

DAC 117UD bus like those used in Bucharest These buses ran between 1978 (prototypes running regularly on existing lines) and the early 1990s, and could be found on virtually any ITB line in the 1980s, being the backbone of the ITB bus fleet, in addition to the DAC 112, ROMAN 112 and IKARBUS IK4, due to the high transport requirement. They were withdrawn in the 90s in the first part, although according to some sources they circulated until 1996 on some peripheral lines. Buses were built in articulated version (DAC 117 ud), later also in short form (DAC 112ud), as well as trolleybuses in both length versions.

DAF chassis

[edit]

RATB had 236 buses of this type, all with MAN engines, but in 3 body types: Hispano Carrocera, ELVO and Castrosua. In 2007, the scrapping of these cars began. After 13 years of operation by the Nordului and Pipera bus depots, the still functional ones began to be gradually moved to the Ferentari bus depot, leaving a very small number of DAF buses at the Nordului and Pipera bus depots. As of March 10, 2011, 4 buses remained in circulation at Pipera Bus Station and 4 other buses at Nordului Bus Station. In May 2011, the Militari and Floreasca Bus Stations received 17 DAF buses from the Ferentari Bus Station (12 Militari, 5 Floreasca) to replace the Rocar de Simon buses. In July, several DAF buses were also sent to the Alexandria Depot. As of August 1, 2011, Rocar de Simon buses were completely replaced by DAF buses, despite the fact that the technical condition of the latter is precarious.

At the end of 2011, 15 DAF Castrosua and Hispano Carrocera buses were still active (11 at Autobaza Militari and 4 at Autobaza Alexandria), these being the last old buses left in circulation in Bucharest, along with bus Rocar Autodromo #98. The last DAF buses were withdrawn from circulation on 1.12.2012, from line 162. Currently, these buses still exist in the cold park in various RATB bus depots, proposed for sale, scrapping or domestic routes.

DAF Berkhof

[edit]

There were 2 buses of this type, assigned to express route 783. These buses run on LPG, which caused some maintenance problems. They belonged to the Pipera fleet and are no longer in service.

HESS

[edit]

Another RATB park unique, the HESS bus was assembled and bodyworked at URAC under the license of the Swiss company Hess AG, on a Daf chassis. It belonged to the Nordului bus depot, being withdrawn from circulation.

Ikarus

[edit]

Ikarus 260/280

[edit]

The first Ikarus buses that circulated in Bucharest in the years 1973-1982 were Ikarus 260 and 280, articulated buses. These were withdrawn in the early 1980s, replaced by DAC buses.

The 177 Ikarus 260 buses (non-articulated variant) were brought to Bucharest between 1991 and 1993. The buses are produced in Hungary. 172 were scrapped by the end of 2008 and 3 were sold, leaving only the 2 specially modified for the disabled (#46 and #55). Also, before 1990 (in the 70s), in parallel with the IKARUS 280, some IKARUS 260 models also circulated, their number being smaller, due to the existence of other short vehicles (IKARBUS ZEMUN IK4, ROMAN 112U). The Ikarus 280 buses, the articulated version of the Ikarus 260 bus ran between 1975 and 1982 on high demand routes.

Ikarus IK4

[edit]

The IK4 buses were produced by the Ikarus Zemun (later Ikarbus, due to confusion with Ikarus Budapesta) factories in Belgrade. They were delivered in the mid-1970s, with the last vehicle in regular service running in 1995.

Iveco TurboCity U

[edit]

Initially there were 40 pieces, produced in Italy in the early 90s, which arrived in Bucharest in 2005 as a donation from the city of Milan. They belong to the Alexandria bus depot and are used especially on line 117 but also on temporary lines. They were definitively withdrawn on March 10, 2011, two of which can be identified in the depot as scrap metal, these being kept only for parts.

Leyland Merkavim

[edit]

These buses, bodied in Israel on chassis of British origin, circulated in Bucharest between 1968 and the end of the 1970s (probably 1976). Their withdrawal from circulation after only 10 years of service has an unknown cause. One option would have been the too high operating costs and the lack of parts for them, another option was that, at the time, the state administration of those times wanted exclusively Romanian buses.

Renault PR100.2

[edit]

Renault PR100.2 bus with park number 97, on line 601 This unique bus, park number 97, was donated by the city of Lyon specifically for the 601 student line (hence the bus graphics), but was also used by the RATB on other lines. The bus was scrapped in the fall of 2007.

Rocar Autodromo

[edit]

There is only one such bus in the STB park. It is a bus with a lowered floor and a MAN Euro 2 engine, produced by the ROCAR plant in 1998. It belongs to the Militari bus depot, running on all bus depot lines. It was permanently withdrawn on June 18, 2014, following a collision with a car. It is currently in a state of preservation in the Military depot.

Rocar De Simon

[edit]

There were 340 of them and they are of several types:

  • UL70 (6)
  • 412-230 (9)
  • U412-220 (25)
  • U412-260 (298)
  • U412-DAF (2)

These buses were used between 1974 and 1990 (or a little after 1990). They were manufactured by the enterprise Tudor Vladimirescu (later ROCAR) under the license of MAN and were available both as a bus and a trolleybus. They were withdrawn from the end of the 80s. In the 90s they were still circulating either on peripheral lines or as RATB internal race vehicles.

These buses circulated in Bucharest from the mid-1960s (circa 1966) to the early 1980s (circa 1984). An interesting feature of these vehicles was the presence of the automatic gearbox and the pneumatic suspension, a novel solution at the time. ITB also built articulated buses derived from these vehicles.
