Draft:List of box office records set by Inside Out 2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inside Out 2 is a 2024 animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. It is the sequel to Inside Out, which was released nine years prior. Directed by Kelsey Mann, it features Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan, who reprise their roles from the first film, with Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser joining the cast. The film centers around thirteen-year-old Riley as she tries to navigate through puberty.

Inside Out 2 was released on June 14, 2024, to widespread acclaim[a] from critics and audiences worldwide. It went on to break multiple box office records in various markets and has been cited as beginning an upward swing for the 2024 summer box office.[5][6] In addition, it has also been credited as saving Pixar after releases such as Lightyear and Turning Red flopped at the box office, costing the company millions of dollars.[7][8][9] On September 1, 2024, Inside Out 2 surpassed The Lion King to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time.[b]

  2. ^ Disney, which produced The Lion King (2019), considered the film to be live-action despite the entire film (aside from its opening shot) being computer animated.[10] Others, such as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (then-presenter of the Golden Globe Awards), deemed it to be animated based on specified criteria.[11]
