Background of the event
[edit]The Library Fair & Forum was first held from 13 to 15 October 1999 at the Tokyo International Forum in Tokyo, under the planning and management of Culture Japan Inc.[2]
Culture Japan Inc. is an affiliate of Yushodo Shoten (now MARUZEN-YUSHODO Co. Ltd), and Mitsuo Nitta, then president of Yushodo Shoten, had the opportunity to attend the annual conferences of the American Library Association (ALA) and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). He saw a wide variety of library-related companies and organisations exhibiting there, and envisioned a similar event in Japan.[2]
Operation
[edit]Culture Japan Inc. acts as the organising secretariat, and the steering committee is made up of several members from publishing companies, exhibiting companies, exhibiting organisations and university faculty members. In addition to this, there are around 50 steering and cooperation committee members, mainly library staff.[2]
