Leonard G. Klepel was born in Ortonville, Minnesota, and served in the U.S Marine Corps during World War 2. During the Battle of Iwo Jima, he was injured and sent to a Naval Hospital in Astoria.
After recovering, He received the Purple Heart medal for his injury. He then returned back to Minnesota where he met a women named Hilda Angrimson. They later married, and Leonard eventually decided to move to the state of Oregon in the Hillsboro area. He died peacefully on March 4, 2011, at the age of 83.
