Lasbela Division, located in the southern region of Balochistan, Pakistan, is a proposed administrative division in south Balochistan as part of an administrative reorganization. The division holds significant geographic, economic, and strategic importance due to its coastal access and proximity to Karachi. Lasbela division would be comprised of three districts:

Districts of Lasbela Division:

1. Lasbela District:

   Lasbela District is Capital at Uthal City and would be

   •Economic Importance: The district is known for its beautiful coastal beaches, agriculture, fisheries, and natural resources. It is home to Hingol National Park, Pakistan’s largest national park, and the Hingol River, a major water source in the area.

  •Key Locations:

     - Sonmiani: A coastal town famous for its beach and Sonmiani Bay.

     - Hinglaj Mata Temple: A significant Hindu pilgrimage site located in the Hingol National Park.

2. Hub District:

  Hub district was created by bifurcating Lasbela District in 2022. Hub city is an industrial hub due to its proximity to Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city.

   •Economic Importance: Hub city is home to many large industries, including steel, cement, and textiles. It benefits from its strategic location near the major economic center of Karachi.

   • Key Locations:

     - Hub City: The main commercial center, where most industrial activities are concentrated.

- Gaddani: Known for its mesmerizing beach worldwide and for its ship-breaking yard, one of the largest in the world.

3. Awaran District:

It is located in the south of the Balochistan province, Awaran district is bordered by Gwadar to its south and south west, Lasbela to its east and south, Kech and Panjgur to its west, Khuzdar to its north east and Washuk to its north.

Awaran district has a strategic importance as CPEC project road goes through it to connect Gwadar to Sindh and short the distance between these provinces.

Geographic and Economic Significance:

• Coastal Access: Lasbela Division borders the Arabian Sea, giving it strategic importance in terms of trade and fishing.

• Industry and Trade: The proximity to Karachi makes it a gateway for industrial and trade activities. Hub District, in particular, has seen significant industrial development.

• Tourism: Lasbela is home to natural attractions like Hingol National Park, Kund Malir Beach, and the historic Hindu pilgrimage site Hinglaj Mata.

• Natural Resources: Lasbela has abundant mineral resources, including marble, limestone, and other materials that fuel local industries.

Infrastructure

• Transportation: The Makran Coastal Highway N-10 & N-25 highway pass through Lasbela division, connecting the region with Karachi and Gwadar. This highway is essential for trade and tourism.

Education

• Uthal is home to the Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS), an important educational institution in the region.

• Balochistan Residential College (BRC) at Uthal

• Polytechnic college at Uthal

• Cadet college Awaran at Jhao Tehsil of Awaran district

Historical and Cultural Importance

• Lasbela has a rich history and is known for its cultural heritage. The name Lasbela is derived from the words "Las," meaning a plain, and "Bela," meaning a jungle.

• The region is historically linked to the "Jam of Lasbela" dynasty, which ruled the area for centuries and contributed to its cultural and political landscape.
