Kombuseevi is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language gangster drama film directed and written by Ponram starring Shanmuga Pandian and R. Sarathkumar in the lead roles.[1] The film stars debutant actor Tharnika in the female lead role alongside Kaali Venkat, Kalki Raja and others in supporting roles.[2] The film is produced by debutant producer Mukesh T Chelliah under Star Cinemas banner. The film has music done by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Balasubramaniem, and editing by Dinesh Ponraj.
Synopsis
[edit]The film is said to be based on true events that happened during 1996 in the areas around Vaigai Dam such as the Andipatti and Usilampatti villages.[3][4]

[edit]In late-March 2024, it was reported that director Ponram who had received negative reviews for his last venture DSP (2022) is in talks with late actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth's son Shanmuga Pandian to make a comeback.[5] Shanmuga Pandian, who is gearing up for his next release Padai Thalaivan would play the lead role opposite to R. Sarathkumar, who had earlier appeared with Shanmuga Pandian's father Vijayakanth in several films such as Pudhu Padagan, Pulan Visaranai, Sandhana Kaatru (all 1990), and Captain Prabhakaran (1991).[6][7] The film stars debutant actor Tharnika in the female lead role alongside Kaali Venkat, Kalki Raja and others in supporting roles.[2]
The film was tentatively titled Production No.1 and is said to be bankrolled by Mukesh T Chelliah under the Star Cinemas banner making its maiden production.[8][9] The film has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Balasubramaniem, costume designed by Meenakshi Narayanaswamy,[10] art direction done by Saravana Abiraman, and editing by Dinesh Ponraj.[11]
Filming
[edit]Principal photography commenced on 25 August 2024, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Vijayakanth.[11][12] On 19 September, the filming began in Theni.[2]
Marketing
[edit]On 12 October 2024, through a first-look poster, the title of the film Kombuseevi was revealed simultaneously by R. Sarathkumar, Shanmuga Pandian and Premalatha Vijayakanth.[1][12]
Music
[edit]The music and background score is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja making his first collaboration[13] with Ponram with lyrics being penned by Yugabharathi and Snehan.[11][7]
