Draft:Kingdom of Mewar - Delhi Sultanate Conflict(1222 to 1303)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kingdom of Mewar-Delhi Sultanate Conflict (1222–1303) was a series of millitary standoffs between the Kingdom of Mewar under the Guhila Dynasty and the Delhi Sultanate from the reign of the Slave Dynasty to the succeeding ones. The primary reason for the clash was the strategic position of Mewar between the routes going through Malwa and Gujarat. The conflict was fought in what is today the Indian States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

The conflict started in the reign of Sultan Iltutmish and Rawal Jaitrasimha when the latter invaded Mewar in the early 12th century; it was followed by Sultan Balban and Rawal Tejasimha when again the armies of the Delhi Sultanate headed by Sultan invaded Mewar in 1253 and 1254. The conflict took a short break in the reign of Rawal Samarsimha, as no major expedition was sent against Mewar. Despite this, several skirmishes took place. The conflict resumed again and also took its end in the reign of Rawal Ratansimha and Sultan Allahudin Khilji in the seige of Chittorgarh in 1303.
