Draft:Kim Belair

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kim Belair is a writer, a narrative designer, president and co-founder of Sweat Baby Inc. She has worked on many AAA titles in the gaming industry, as the CEO from as early as 2018. She began her career in community development at Ubisoft, where she is credited to have worked on Watch Dogs and Far Cry 4.

History

[edit]

Kim began her career working in community development at Ubisoft studios. Her most noticeable work is with Far Cry 4 and Watch Dogs, where she kept the community informed on various developments regarding the state and features of the game.[1]

Prior to this, Kim worked as a writer. Some of her work includes Pure Steel, which is an epistolary novel. Pure Steel is set in 1910 and focuses on the efforts of an individual sent to find a missing person.[2] The gaming industry has experienced many controversies with regard toward sexism and toxic behaviors. Ubisoft itself was implicated in mass lay offs, which were afflicting the industry. It is in this environment where Kim believed she could make a difference.[3][4]

She sought to create a safe space where creativity through diversity would be encouraged, to create products for all demographics to enjoy. She believed that upward mobility in the industry was restricted for women in particular and that through creating such a space, there would be more opportunity for women to advance their careers. This lead to the creation of Sweat Baby Inc, with the intention of creating this space, where her and her colleagues could work together.[5]

Sweat Baby Inc

[edit]

Sweat Baby Inc is a 16 person writing and developing consultancy studio, that was co-founded by Belair in 2018.[5] As CEO and President, she has been involved with the following titles:

Although the company has been involved with AAA titles that were received very well by the community and even won prestigious gaming awards, many within the industry believe that the companies involvement in such titles did not actually contribute to the reason why such titles were so successful. The company remains at the epicenter of some of the many controversies afflicting the gaming industry.[1][17]
