Kervy Delcy (born January 24, 1991) is a Haitian-American composer, poet, and librettist. She is known for her contributions to classical music and her advocacy for increasing representation of female composers in opera and related genres.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Delcy was born in Haiti and displayed an early interest in music and poetry. She began writing and performing at a young age, creating melodies by age nine. She pursued formal training in music composition under Philip Lasser and orchestration with Marie-Jeanne Serero. Delcy earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Media Scoring from the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema.
In addition to her musical expertise, she is multilingual, speaking Creole, French, Latin, German, and basic Italian.
Career
[edit]Delcy founded Vox Feminarum, an international nonprofit organization aimed at promoting the work of female composers in classical music, opera, musical theater, and jazz. Through this platform, she has advocated for greater inclusivity and provided resources for female artists.[1]
She leads the female vocal ensemble Reflets du Silence and co-directs the band Sphere, both of which perform her original compositions. Delcy has performed at venues such as Opera America and is scheduled to showcase her work at Carnegie Hall.[2][3]
Currently, she is a Composer Fellow with the American Opera Project (AOP) for the 2023–2025 season[3]
Educational Work
[edit]Delcy is actively involved in teaching composition, piano, and music theory. She focuses on making music education more inclusive, particularly for underrepresented groups.
